Overlooked scenic road

We are staying close to Lofoten and this area is getting all the attention from the tourist in the area. It is even a very popular destination amongst Norwegians travelling up here to enjoy the area for a few days or a couple of weeks depending on their desires.

When Lofoten gets all the attention very nice places just next to Lofoten seems a bit overlooked and you can go here and explore these places in relative peace without a lot of other tourist hanging around the area.

We decide to take the scenic road to Andenes which is a small town at the very end of a peninsula off mainland Norway. The small village is known for whale watching tours but we don’t really want to hang around with a large group of people on a small boat for hours this year – even though we might be outdoor.

But even if you don’t want to go to the whale watching the drive up along the west coast of the peninsula is very nice to drive. We enjoy the drive up which have many small coves and dramatic cliffs. The landscape is very nice despite some questionable weather this morning. So there are clouds hanging on the top of the mountains but fortunately it is still clear down along the coast so we can enjoy the view of the drive.

The road is nice but slow – so when we head back to our accommodation we decide to go along the east coast of the peninsula. This is much faster – but the landscape on this side of the peninsula is less interesting. It is some a pretty flat landscape down to the water and the mountains is pretty far from the road – so the landscape here is far less scenic than the west.
