In the center of Roskilde right next to the famous cathedral with the royal graves you find the former city hall of the city. The current city hall has outgrown the old building and has been moved to a location outside the city center.

The old city hall has been transformed into a community house where the locals can use the rooms for different kinds of meetings. The prettiest room is the old meeting room of the city council. The style of the hall hasn’t changed much since it was built in 1884. Today the hall is used for weddings if people don’t want to go through a Christian ceremony in the cathedral next door.

If you come at a time where there is no meeting or weeding you can go in and have a look at the old hall. The room is impressive so it is well worth to go and have a quick look at the room before you go and explore the other attractions of Roskilde.

Your both change to get inside without a meeting is probably fairly early in the morning so if you go here as the first stop before you go and explore the cathedral or the Viking ship museum. The room is small so it will probably only take you 5-10 minutes to see the room – but it is well worth having a quick look around.
