Posted by Of all the fountains in Rome the Trevi Fountain is probably the most famous of them all. Legend has it if you drop a coin in this fountain you are sure to return to Rome again. The fountain is located in the central part of Rome and it attracts thousands of tourists on continuous basis – it seems like no matter what time of day or night you come by there are still lots of people there taking photos or throwing in coins in the fountain.
The fountain is a special construction since the fountain is actually an integrated part of the palace on the same square – it is actually one of the walls of the palace. You can see the windows facing out towards the fountain.
The fountain is built in 1732 by Nicola Scavi and in the centre is a statue of King Neptune with a couple of horses below him and the water falling down in the pool in front of him – and the palace behind him.

I’d love to go there! There’s something similar in Prague and I’ve returned three times since – either it was because I rubbed the statue or I just loved the city!

Trevi Fountain – the tradition is, I believe, that if you throw a coin in the water you will some day return. I threw a coin in back in 1979 when on a school trip to Italy. Maybe I should try to return next year for the 40 year anniversary?

yup that is the tradition. I guess if you throw 3 you get married to a Roman 🙂 you should return for sure.

I have limited traveling experience so I never visited the Trevi Fountain. My husband took our sons there about 20 years ago and they were duly impressed. Thank you for allowing me to see it through your eyes.

Have heard so much about the Trevi fountain. Very lucky of you to get to visit and get up close as it’s such a popular thing to see. Looks like you visited the fountain in the day and evening 🙂

Yes went both day and night. pretty easy to do since it is in the central part of Rome so if your hotel has a decent location you can go twice with no problems.

Yeah I been to rome a few times visiting the fountain at least once at every visit. And will probably get back there one day in the future to check up on the fountain and other stuff in the city.

Mickey, We were on an archaeological tour years ago …. and they said there was a merchant who made the workers and creator of the fountain crazy with his complaining …. and so…. in revenge, there is an unattractive stone with no carving to the right of the fountain that is directly in the view of the merchant’s shop …… That’s what we were told was one feature of the fountain ….. thought it was poetic justice.

I am getting slightly overwhelmed by the quantity of tourists everywhere.
It’s been a long time since last went to Rome, but I’m not sure I could handle the crowds.
Though… on second thought, tourists can be avoided by switching to two roads up or down.

Yes. I remember that “turning left” in the street could lead you to absolute jewels with no-one in sight. 🙂

I went to Rome with my Huband for only 3 days but we saw a lot. Lovely with ruins and beautiful Palaces
I am Italian by Birth and grew up there I Northen Italy. You can’t go to Italy and don’t see Roma.
